Biography:
Anthony was born into a military family, and was lived and raise on a military base. His father is a Vietnam Veteran and his grandfather is a World War II veteran. Therefore, Anthony wanted to join the Marine's as a way to gain his "manhood". His father didn't want Anthony to join and in fact his father escorted the first officers that showed themselves at their house. Anthony's father told Anthony that "I know something about the military that they don't show in brochures". But at the age of 18, Anthony still ended up serving in the United States Marine Corp and in the Marine Corp he was a Target Acquisition/Scout-Sniper platoon during the Gulf War.
When he got back from the Gulf War he went to college where he worked a variety of jobs just so he could pay for his tuition, this is also when he wrote his first book, Jarhead: A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles, which was published in 2003, then in 2005 the movie Jarhead, based on Swofford's book and personal life, came out.
